This project involved the removal and replacement of a damaged concrete base used for truck trailer unloading at a commercial premises in Redditch. Years of repeated heavy vehicle movements had caused the existing concrete to crack and develop potholes, making the unloading area unsafe and inefficient. The Situation
A commercial site in Redditch required the replacement of an existing concrete unloading area after the surface had deteriorated through constant use by heavy truck trailers.
The existing concrete base, measuring approximately 1.5 metres by 4 metres and around 150mm (6 inches) deep, had developed significant cracking and potholes. These defects affected the smooth operation of trailer unloading and increased the risk of further structural damage if left untreated.
The client required a like-for-like replacement that would restore the integrity of the unloading area while ensuring it remained capable of supporting frequent heavy vehicle traffic.

Our Approach
We began by breaking out and removing the existing damaged concrete base using a Cat 301.5 mini excavator and associated equipment. All cracked and failed concrete was excavated to the required depth, allowing the underlying formation to be fully exposed.
Following removal, the base was inspected and prepared for reinstatement. The formation was levelled and compacted where necessary to create a stable foundation capable of supporting the new concrete slab and the heavy trailer loads it would experience.
A new concrete base was then installed to match the original dimensions of approximately 1.5 metres by 4 metres. The replacement slab was carefully formed to align with the surrounding surface levels, providing a smooth transition for trailer movements while delivering the strength and durability required for daily commercial operations.
