This project involved clearing and preparing a proposed building footprint in Edgbaston, Birmingham, by excavating existing foundation remnants, levelling the site and preparing the formation for inspection by Building Control. The works provided a clean, accessible and properly prepared area ready for the next stage of new foundation and drainage construction.
The Situation
The Edgbaston site was being prepared for new building works and required the existing ground to be cleared before construction could begin.
Remnants of previous foundations and concrete were present within the proposed building footprint, creating an uneven and unsuitable formation for the new foundations. These existing materials needed to be carefully excavated and removed from the working area before the site could be brought to the required formation level.
The client required the area to be cleared, levelled and left ready for inspection before proceeding with the new foundation and drainage works.

Our Approach
We began by excavating the proposed building footprint and removing the remaining sections of existing foundations and concrete within the construction area.
The excavation was carried out carefully to clear the old foundation materials while preparing the ground for the new building works. Excavated concrete and foundation remnants were segregated and stockpiled in a designated area on site, as instructed by the client.
Once the existing materials had been removed, the site was levelled and brought to the required formation. The excavation was carefully trimmed to create a clear and accessible footprint for the planned building.
Particular attention was given to the edges and overall formation of the excavation, ensuring the area was tidy and free from loose debris. This provided a suitable working environment for the client’s inspection and the following stages of construction.
The completed footprint was then left ready for Building Control inspection before the commencement of new foundation and drainage works.
